Key Codes
Hi I would like to know what the codes stamped on the door and ignition are for. I had ordered a set for a 1971 and when I hade them cut they did not fit, got them backwards I guess. The new ones are stamped
A and C and I believe the C stamped key is for the ignition and the A is for the door and I also believe that the keys are grouped so that they are 4 years apart. 1967,1971, 1975, 1979,ect. Thanks

All 1967 through 1973 GM cars originally had square keys for the ignition and doors and round keys for the glove, trunk, and console.
Key blanks and years are as follows:
67 = A&B; 68 = C&D; 69 = E&H; 70 = J&K; 71 = A&B; 72 = C&D; 73 = E&H; 74 = J&K

For my 68 the octagon "C" key unlocks the doors and operates the ignition while the oval "D" key is for the rear glove compartment lock and the spare tire lock.
I think for 71 the A key is doors and ignition while the B key is for glovebox and tire lock.
