Default Where to find a project car??

I know....I'm probably on the wrong forum, but I just trust you guys...
Anyway, my son and I have been talking about (serious)rebuilding/restoring a C1, basically looking at a '61 convertable if we can find one. Anybody here got any idea where one would look to find such a car? (upstate New York, very north) I don't imagine they're a dime a dozen in junk yards...TIA

You can always try the cars for sale section here on the forum. Ebay, www.classiccartraderonline.com might be of some help.

Ebay, Hemmings, word of mouth, Bloomington or Carlisle if you can wait 7 months.

By project, what do you mean? You want a worn out driver? You balk at that 67, but have you priced finished 67 Verts? It all depends on what you want and how much work you are willing and able to do. If you can't do bodywork you want a relatively nice body to start with. If you can't do heavy mechanical you will need a good driveline or pay to have it done. I would think a drivable 61 would be $30k+. You might do better with a project '57 Kit. Just a thought.

You can also try Cars.com - I've had good luck finding stuff there. Right now there are 2 '61s for sale if you search on "all" for maximum distance:

my neighbor has two 76's i think. . they are both running but need to be gone through. this is an opportunity for $talks fast. he just sold his house and dumping them may be a realistic thing. depending upon the response to this post, ill ask him if its ok to give out his phone #

OK..first, I own a 76, so not looking for another that year (thanks, rastadr), Project? Well, actually, that 67 on Ebay is about the condition we're looking for, just not willing to fork over that kind of cash...maybe I am being unrealistic, and that IS the going price in that condition for that price..my son did body work for years before he opted for college and I know my way around engines so we should be all set, and farm out anything we can't handle....and "not a need it tomorrow" thing either...it can wait until we find one that is realatively affordable...maybe a couple grand....then slowly replace and repair, a little at a time, off frame...let me know if I'm pipe dreaming

OK, I was just trying to understand what you wanted. 67s are a hot car right now and will be for at least the next few years I believe, verts especially. I would not be surprised of that one nears $20k-aqnd maybe no-sales before its all done. He has headlights and most of the hard stuff from what I can see. Are you set on a C1 or C2? There was a 73 vert project car that got flamed on yesterday. It was at $2500. It would make a nice project in my opinion with a little more investigation. If you want a C1 or C2, I would just keep poking around and see what is in somebodys basement or barn, keep going to shows and swap meets, eventually something will pop.

Your best bet is Ebay. Or just dumb luck. Thats not an easy year to fine.

Don't give up!!! All good things come with some hard work. You'll appreciate it even more.

I'm sure we'll find one eventually...like the 4 headlites on the 61-62 and the ray type rear....that will be the priority, but as I said...not an absolute...OK..anybody else want to chime in, I'm listenin'

To save you some time, all 61's were convertibles.
