Default Front Crossmember

I'm in the process of disassembeling my '69 vert, and while cleaning the front crossmember, I found some very bad rust.(thru and thru) Can I buy a new replacement part, or do I have to pay a visit to the welder? I am in the process of doing a frame off, though this will not be a show car, just solid, dependable, and hopefully faster than it is now.
Thanks,
SLY

Corvette Central and Corvette America both sell them for about $180. You may be able to find better prices by shopping around a bit, keep in mind they'll probably add extra shipping costs because of size/weight.

Good luck!

Default I bought one...

I was in the process of putting my headlights back into the '72 and got on the ground to pull myself under the car and used one of the holes in the crossmember to hold onto when a bunch of rust fell to the floor. After 45 minutes I had a pile of rust 4" high and 12" long...I mean the size of a basketball. Ha ha!! I did what you did. I looked at used crossmembers, new crossmembers, lined up a welder buddy etc... A friend suggested that a used crossmember is just what I already had! A new crossmember @ Ecklers was $179 + tax...so I waited for the Ecklers Reunion to purchse mine. They gave 10% and I picked it up. So, the moral to my story is...look for good deal, maybe Wilcox. These crossmembers are built the same. The NCRS has NO inspection of the crossmember in any book I have read. Good luck with the frame off!
