Default Dallas Paint Shops

Am interested in recommendations for Dallas Area (North Dallas if possible) that do quality work and are reasonable. I'm currently plannign to use JBs off Valley View in Farmers Branch...but am interested in assuring that I evaluate all before making this move.

Thanks!

I used JB and am very happy with it. If you want to come to McKinney tonight you can see his work. When I was trying to get mine done I called every paint shop in the Yellow pages and they were either too busy or couldn't paint a vette. A couple said they could do it some time next year maybe. John said he could take mine whenever I was ready to leave it. It took several months but I don't regret using him at all. You'll really like Hanna. That's the cute little doberman that works there. She just loves company.

My 72 is being restored by Mid-Cities Classics in Hurst. They've been in business for 25 years. Talk to Jim Welch. They specialize in Vettes.

Do you mind sharing how much this will cost you and what is the extent of the work being done?

Thanks...

Went by JB's Corvette Friday and toured his new shop...a few streets behind Corvettes of Dallas but he has the same phone number as when he was off Valley View.

I was VERY IMPRESSED with the new down draft paint booth he is having installed. Will definitely be state of the art!

I'm interested in paint for my 71 too. I just got two quotes $12K and $7-10K. Do you mind telling me how much JB's is quoting? Also do you have a link or contact info for JB's?

Thanks,

Difficult question, but John at JBs is reasonable. He just did a relatively major collision repair on my 75 (around $10K in damage) and I had him go ahead and strip and repaint the rest of the car while he was at it. I wanted, and got, a good driver quality paint job from him. The car is black and looks pretty good. He stripped and painted the t-tops, and whole rear-end starting at the quarter panel and charged me $1000 for that extra work. I did not paint the door jambs, though. This included a minor glass repair on the driver t-top. Very reasonable price, especially considering that he stripped all of the paint with a razor blade. I've had some other work done by John and I won't be taking the car to anyone else. He's a good, square guy that does what he says is not out to shaft anybody.

Here's the link to his old place. He has since moved, but the phone number is still good:

This is definitely my impression as well. He has quoted $7,000 for a complete strip and repaint(including door jams). Also includes new door hinges as mine are sagging. Will also rebuild my electric windows for the cost of parts needed while he's in there. Not a bad deal overall as I'm taking the car from White to Candy Red.

He'll probably find a few other minor things on yours while he's at it and just fix them as he goes. On mine, he replaced the passenger door spring and the bushings on both doors (he was in there already and saw it needed done). I saw he also tightened the side-view mirror and fixed a bubba-electrical connetion I had done on my dual spals.

When he stripped mine there was some previous very poor repairs that he just tore out and made right. They let me take pictures several times a week and answered loads of questions while I was there everytime. The few things I didn't like he fixed it right away. Now if I have to have anything else done I'd rather wait for him than let anyone else do it.

I got mine painted at JBs as well. Great job, quick turnaround, fair price. I recommend him 100%.

Thanks. I'm going to run by and see him tomorrow at lunch. I'm surprised he's going to strip it with a razor.

I appreciate the response.

Default Costs of restore

Let me say the cost is a lott more than I had anticipated (but I had to order all new parts for the entire car which I did not expect). I purchased the 72 for 7500 (included a rebuilt 350 with aluminum heads, eddlebrock manifold and Holley 650, also included a restored frame with all new brake lines and a body in good condition). other than that I've had to order everything for the car. He charges 50 (just went to 65 an hour) he will probably have close to 100 to 120 hours in the car to get it up and running. I still will have to strip the car (which I will attempt with a razor blade so I can save 1500) and have the car painted. I firmly believe (without major damage to the car) you can have a vette painted for 2500.00 Most shops charge by the hour (35 to 85 an hour).

Stopped by JB's today. Wow, I really liked him. His prices aren't cheap but his work looks great and he knows his cars. He's got a Steel Cities Gray he just finished that will be back from 4 wheel alignment tomorrow. I'm going to go see how it looks. Thanks for the advice! After four shops in the area he made me feel the best.
