Looking for ideas/options on my 76. The wheel on this year is horrible, and I'm tired of looking at it. I noticed most nice steering wheels are for all c3's EXCEPT 76. Ideas? Anyone selling?
It's a pain. No one makes adapters either. I saw a replacement from ididit that you can use a std grant adapter on. Haven't priced it yet though. Interior is next year. Grant told me they didn't plan to make an adapter either
Here is an article on how to convert the column using about 8 pre 76 parts. That way you don't have to get a new column and can use any wheel that the 69 to 75 used.
Momo hub adapter #2401 should work. I just bought one last week for my '79 and it indicates it can be used for 68-82. Good luck. Google up momo hub adapter 2401.
This paper might be of value as well. It covers the installation of a 1977 through 1982 steering wheel and attaching parts on a 1976 column. (The previous posting had the paper on using 1969 through 1975 steering wheels and attaching parts.)
Thanks Jim,
I knew there was one out there some where for the later model conversion. I added it to my tech artical link folder. I would like to do the conversion some day. But it is still down a little on my to do list.
Elkers sells an adapter that allows you to mount a standard corvette wheel, however, you loose the telecopic feature. It puts the wheel ~3/4 of the way out ... if I recall correctly. Its been a long time since I did mine. Its a lot cheaper than buying all of the retrofit parts to convert over to the other years or a whole new steering column. Just another option.
