Hi originally I posted a question on what keeps the door from opening from the outside handle mechanism (70 Vert). After taking the panel off I know how the linkage connects to the latch assembly. Here is my question, the connection of the rod to the latch requires some type of a clip to keep it from coming apart. How in the world does one get this clip onto the rod in such tight working space??
If you don't happen to have about a 12 y/o son or daughter hanging around pay the neighbor kid $10. Well worth the $10 bucks and who knows you might even get a youngster interested in Vettes.
It's an unusual looking little clip. When I first realized I was going to have to install this clip in such a difficult setting, I thought I was going to be doomed. Surprisingly it was very easy and fast. The clip is designed to be easy to install. You have to have the correct clip though.
The clip has what amounts to a lot of little spring like fingers. For my 68, I installed the rod on the door opening lever (one end)...did this outside of the car so it was really easy. Then I installed the door pushbutton (for a 69 and up you have to install the lock mechanism). I can't remember if the clip was on the rod or on the door latch "Door Open" lever. Anyhow I was able to get a finger in their and snap it closed.
(I'm gong to have to learn how to take photos for posting)
