I'm looking for some help changing out the front PINION SEAL on the rear differential of a 1975 Vette. I am new to working on cars, so I'm looking for some tricks from the experienced "know-it-alls". I had the rear differential off a while ago, and when I put it all back together, the front pinion seal started leaking.
So, here's the question. I'm looking to break loose the bolt that holds the front "yoke" in, but I want to do it without taking the whole diff out again. I disconnected the drive shaft, and the stub arms, but I can't get the front mounting bracket off of the diff without taking the whole diff out, and I can't get at the nut I'm trying to break loose. Does anyone have any tricks/suggestions about how to get the front bracket off, or get at that bolt, other than taking the whole diff out? Any help would be AWESOME.
The front bracket can be removed for pinion seal change. You need to get the car high enough in the air to work on it. The front snubber bushing bolt can be reached with a socket or box wrench and loosened. I answered a similar question today in the Tech section, look there and if you still need help let me know.
