Default '76 engine (de)code help?

ok so it's not a novel question but an enquiring mind wants to know...

my '76 engine numbers on the right pad are:

151117462 K09 06 CHW

if the "k" is a month code and the '06' a year code, I would presume the build date was 11/9/76? Well, that would answer my next question (no, it would not be the original block to my 9/75 production date car)..

The head numbers look like 888882 but I presume they're 333882 ('74-'80 76cc chambered heads) - appears the casting date is H 29 4 (8/29/74 ?)

Any help ?

"K" means the engine was built at the McKinnon engine plant in St. Catherines Ontario Canada.

"0906" means it was built on September 6th, the year is not included in this code.

Without knowing the casting date of the block, but assuming the heads are original, cast in 1974 then:

"CHW" means that it went into a 175 HP Chevelle

151117462 is the serial number of the car it was installed in.

I'm right behind ya in the decode - found a great site

http://www.novaresource.org/codes.htm for info. According to this site, CHW was the correct code for a 1975 350 4bbl w/TH350.

1 = chevrolet 5 = '65-'75 year code 1 = Oshawa, Ontario 117462 = veh vin (which doesn't match mine).

you're right - motor's correct for my production date, just not my car... ah, well, I could have done a lot worse

thanks for the update!
