OK, it's time to get the stains off my carpet(s) - my DD as well as my C3 need new carpet but I have too many other things to order (and pay for) so I decided to just clean them instead of buying new carpet.
Are these rug doctors that you can rent at (for example) Homedepot worth it ? Anybody have experience with these or other carpet cleaning machines ?? There must be something better out there - should I hire a professional carpet cleaner ? How much do these guys charge if I remove the carpet for them to clean it ??
I use this stuff in a can with a yellow top and it takes absolutely all the stains out. Spray it on rub it with a wet rag or brush and poof all the stains are gone.
If you want I will look tonight and see what it is called.
I imagine I can use that in the house as well, there are two spots where I spilled coffee :o TuffStuff didn't get it out
yes, I've heard about that terrible smell after the professional carpet cleaner came and cleaned the carpet .... my neighbour told me about some company that cleaned her carpet with some kind of a steam cleaner and only non toxic chemicals, she doesn't remember the name of that company... she said it didn't smell too bad and only for two days, then the smell was gone.
A lot of the bigger full service car washes will clean your carpet for you and do a great job for about $20.00 - 25.00. By the time you buy the cleaner or rent the machine it may be faster (and come out better) to go that route...check it out.

I use Tuff Stuff and a brush. Spray it on, let is soak for a couple minutes, then start scrubbing. If you get tuff stuff on plastic, make sure and clean it off and clean the part with Armour All or some other interior protectant. Tuff Stuff will dry the plastic out.
I'll get some TuffStuff and the quick-n-brite, scrub it good and maybe use Home Depot's rug docter after the scrubbing.....
Just talked to another neighbour last night, he had some pro carpet doctors clean his carpet in the entire house.... he said they charged $250 and the house smelled horrible for over a week..... basically confirmed TwinTurbo's warning
Sounds like what's called Kerby here, a bunch of rip off artists. A door salesman comes to your house asking if they can clean your carpet for free as a demonstration...well sure, clean it. Then they clean about a square foot and then you have 1 clean patch and the rest is horrible..well they don't continue, you have to buy their whole damn kerby carpet cleaning machine for a 1000$ or so...

Holy cow...... I've never heard of such a rip-off before
I'd be pi$$ed if they did that to me - all the horror stories about the terrible smell of their chemicals and now this.....
Does anybody here have a good experience with these so called "pro" carpet cleaners ??
I have taken mine out and washed it with the pressure washer if it is really filthy and let it dry. When dry Woolite carpet cleaner works well to get whats left and leaves a fresh smell.

this thread kind of covers two topics now, professional rip-off artists that clean one square foot of your home and then want you to buy their equipment (in addition they seem to leave a bad smell).... and the car-carpet....
I thought about just using a hose and detergent, I do not have a pressure washer... well, not yet....
I guess in FL it doesn't take too long to dry it....
I'll be working on this next weekend and will post some photos of the progress for everybodies enjoyment and amusement.... one of the photos might show me at the Eckler's parts counter buying a new carpet

I worked for a company called Servicemaster from the age of 17-19. One of our services was carpet cleaning. I can still tell by looking at a carpet if I can get it clean. The truth about keeping your carpet looking good is vacuuming it regurlarly. Most people don't so the dirt gets ground into the carpet fibers and they get pissed when you can't get it back out. Chemicals can only do so much. So, if your carpet has spots from soda, mud, etc, that aren't too old, you can probably get it clean. If it just has years of dirt and use, sorry, it will never look new again.
Used some diluted and full strength "Rug Doctor" that we had left over from renting one of their units a long time ago. The diluted stuff went into a bucket with some hot water and straight full strength was dabbed on a cloth and placed directly on the stain. I used a bristle brush with a handle to do some scrubbing. It took out some VERY dark stains in my Suburban's tan carpet - looks great now...
Had good results taking out carpet stains with "Simple Solution - Stain and Odor Remover" which we have because of indoor pets. Can be found at your local Pet Supply such as PetCo...
