Default Eggcrate Side Grills!

Hi, My friend and I got into a heated discussion about the beauty of 70,71,72 eggcrates on the side. I love them, he says the are emulating Mercedes, and ones of the past as well, not in keeping with the all american styling! We're both shark fanatics, Mine is currently an orange 77 4spd. Chime it with your thoughts, opinions.

Tell your friend that just because they emulate other styling queues doesn't make them any less gorgous on a vette ...

I also say the 56/57 body cribed the lines of the Mercedes Gullwing, especially the foward leaning headlights and the hood blisters, so there is heritage. Sports cars are notorious for stealing lines, we stole the 68 camtail off Ferrari!

Egg crates/ ice cube trays, both front and side are an awesome detail. I am not sure if they were a copy of anything (Benz or otherwise) but the C-3 styling in general is still the best looking overall design (costing less than $200,00) to come out of any car company in the last 40 years, period. If the General borrowed a little to finish off this masterpiece, it's just fine by me.

I have a '72 (eggcrate grilles) and I love the look but I do like the '68-69 shark gill look better.

Considering the only years I wanted were the 70 thru 72 I guess I like the eggcrate side grills. Best looking ones on the C3 IMO.

I don't dislike them exactly. I prefer the 69 with inserts, which is what I have. The eggcrates look OK, they definately accentuate the side of the car. Do love the chrome bumpers though on all 68-72.

As far as pure coolness, the shark gills on the 68 & 69 are tops. Then the 73 to 82 are next with the 70 to 72 egg crates a very distant 3rd.

I've always liked the tie in with the gills on a car named after a sea creature. Odd perhaps, but it makes perfect sense to me...
