I have a replacement dash cap and would like any simple advice. I assume I need to remove all the screws securing the front dash panels (six screws). Will this expose the "clips" on the old dash cap? Any pitfalls or surprises?
I think you have to remove two screws from the center gauge console up by the wiper switch.
Oh yeah, there is a screw that attaches the cap to the firewall. Its underneath behind the passenger side front panel. You'll have to remove that panel first, remove the screw/bracket from under the pad, then the pad comes off.
i just did this on a 73 so i hope its like yours,, yes the screws have to come out of gauge cluster, then the top trim that runs along the top(w/ mirror in center) then the post trims, then the map pocket(on a 73) then the 6 or so screws on the frt under the pad(i think theres 3 in map pocket side 3 in guage side) also once the map pocket is out there is a 45 degree bracket that supports the dash pad theres a screw in it that goes in the dash pad that is holding it.. then it should slide foward from the clips in the back that hold it down to the back windshield frame ..then bow up in center(carefully cuz they crack if there old and u v rayed) after bowing in cenetr slide one side out,,,,good news is that the new ones are nice and soft and flexable so they go in ezer than puttin in a old one(gotta fight the old ones in) new one went in real e z for me hope this helps w/ your year carl
