Default 76 steering wheels

Anyone know of any replacement steering wheels for 76's? It appears that there aren't any easy ones to find...has anyone found an option (be it modification or direct replacement - honestly, is anything on these cars a "direct" replacement??)

my wheel has this strange almost "gummy" residue on it....which i'm sure is the breakdown of whatever the heck it's made of....

You have several options:
1) Retrofit the steering column's telescopic section to a 69-75 design. This will allow you the use of any factory or aftermarket corvette wheel. This works but is costly. I think there is an article on corvettefaq.com on how to do this. (I've just got all the pieces to do this ... now I have to find the time)

2) Buy the special adapter sold by Ecklers to install the standard corvette aftermarket wheels. Low cost, but you loose the telescopic feature of the steering column (This is what I'm currently running. Did the change ~ 8 yrs ago)

3) I think some of the high end aftermarket steering wheel companies make adapters. Pick up a street rod magazine and start calling the companies advertised. There are quite a few companies making wheels now days.

The 1976 steering columns (both standard non-adjustable and the T&T) are the same as the 1969 through 1975 C3 steering columns. (Not the steering wheels, horn parts, or telescope lock just the basic steering columns).

Here are two papers that discuss changing over the 1976 T&T column.
I think that all the needed parts are available from Zip Products ( and probably other Corvette suppliers as well.)

Adapting the 1969-75 steering wheel:
http://www.corvettefaq.com/c3/T&T69-...To76Column.doc

Adapting the 1977-82 steering wheel:
http://www.corvettefaq.com/c3/T&T77-...To76Column.doc

BTW, the above papers reference other papers and scans of particular AIM sheets. They can be found at www.corvettefaq.com in the Steering section.
