Glad nothing happened to you. I've had similar experiences with out of control fuel leakage in my garage and it feels like pure pandemonium when it happens. I've got several fire extinguishers in my garage and a water hose outside the garage door and I still get paranoid about blowing something up when working with the fuel system.
guess i did squawk 7500 on this thread.....my apologies
you might have "squawk 7500" this thread but my 12 year old thanks you for the new wallpaper just the same.
without a doubt one of the prettiest vette and jet photos i have ever seen.

any update on the fuel leaks actual location?
Sorry about the suspense; it's killing me, too! I waited until this afternoon, when the wind finally dipped below 20kts, and dropped the tank. I had to unbolt both muffler hangers to gain access to the bolts that hold the lower tank support.
The tank is out but I am mifffed: I can't visually see any hole or compromise of the seam. It's dark here now, so I will wait until tomorrow and remove the sender and fill it up with water and see where it's leaking from. Looks like Bubba MAY be off the hook on this one
Finally got to water-test the tank, and lo and behold, a two pinhole leak was discovered on the bottom of the tank. Unless liquid is squirting out of it, you'd never notice it.

Good Job..... .....I figured Bubba had been hiding out in that tank!
Repair or replace ???
Wish me luck...I will remove my tank next weekend just to hopefully find the build sheet! I have tried to look through the filler opening but cant seem to find it. FL

44B - I'm replacing it. In fact, the tank that was in it, was not the correct tank to begin with. It was an 18 gal. tank - the correct one is a 20 gal...
I would zap all of the bolts with WD40 or some other penetrant a day before you want to remove it. My bolts were very rusty and this helped a lot. I did have to drop the muffler hangers so I could push the mufflers out of the way enough to get a wrench on the head of the bolts holding the gas tank crossmemeber support.
Also, you'll probably want to install new gas tank pads and/or anti-squeak kit also. The pads on mine were deteriorated. If you have a digitial camera, take a pic or two of it now in case there are problems later.
Good luck and hope you find the sheet. Mine wasn't there and I didn't think it would be since it wasn't the original tank.
Yep, Bubba did a heck of a job on my car. First he caulked the T-tops in, then painted a new paint jod right over the old one, used bailing wire to hold the right side exaust up, not to mention all the hacker wiring that has toi be cleaned up!! The harder I look and the more I work on fixing what I see, I find more signs that, "BUBBA WAS HERE!"
