I've went every were and everyone tells me the same thing, but i know its out there somewere. Does anyone know were i can buy a real real dark tint for my back window that will cover the whole back window without a splice in it? I already have the shade tint from corvette central and its just not dark enough please help!!
The darkest made is 5% a.k.a Limo Tint. You can't see anything in or out of them. Might as well paint your windows with a black spray can. But it looks dam good and keeps the sun out of the car.
I would recommend 20% or if you want to go just a tad darker 15%, but honestly, 5% is way too dark and almost impossible to see out of during the day,... never mind at night.
Oh,... and before I forget,.... Where can you get it???? Any local tint shop should have it. They get it on large rolls for limo's and other vehicles that need privacy glass. The stuff they sell in Autozone, Advance, and Pepboys will not work in a vettes back window. Its the consumer type of tint and is primarily for the side windows. Go to a professional shop. They should charge $150 max to get the front driver, passenger, and rear window done, with a sun shield. At least thats what I pay in New York...
Maybe its just me but I can see out of the back window in my car with the 5% tint. I wouldn't have it any other way actually. Don't get me wrong though 20% is still really dark. You can actually buy 2% tint as well but its not as common. Here in saskatchewan we can tint anything that is behind the drivers head, so the back window is 5%. I used to have some 60% stuff on the side windows but I was pulled over, fined $50 and had to take it off.
I've found that with cars that have a large angled rear window like 78-82 vettes and some 83 or so camaros that there is too much reflection on the inside if you make the tint too dark. Especially if you have glass t-tops or take the tops off. You look in the rear view mirror and you see nothing but glare. One of the aftermarket companies sells a removable one piece type tinted insert, might have been mid america. Take a look at that.

Mine (an '81) had that in it (lexan???) & it was quite a nice level of tint. I took it out as I couldn't see a darn thing behind me when reversing at night. Taking it out was a 5min job, so putting it in would be about the same. For what's effectively a sheet of material cut to shape & just "bent" into position it was incredible that it never rattled.
Usually it's only the front windows that have to have the 'Approved' shade of tint. Never had any hassle about the other windows.
Ratflinger you obviously have not met the troopers here in Kerrville. And they like to right tickets for no front plates too. Ask me how I know but i'll bet you can guess.
If you get a chance the AACC is making a run to Kerrville Saturday to tour the Mooney Aircraft plant then on to my place for lunch.

There used to be a product called a Gila Pop In. It was a tinted piece of plastic (probably lexan) which fit inside the big back window. Not sure how dark the tint was, but it had no seams. Eckler's used to carry it.
