My reference book indicates a 2.87 for the auto. and 2.72 for the
standard shift. Then My Black Book shows an RPO G92 Performance
Rear Axle but does not give the ratio and no mention of it in My other
reference book.

I have seen mention of an optional 3.07 "performance" rear(look out!). Obviously economy was the big thing then & performance was a dirty word

I have seen reports that Rally-wheeled cars had 2.72, while N90/aluminum-wheeled cars received 2.87s, but I have heard that story was bogus:
we're talking about 25 year-old cars, that 'may've' been tinkered with, or repaired using non-OEM parts, so you'd better 'jack-up and count'.....

I believe these were the only two ratios available. And yes I've got the 2.72s

I'll make you a sweet deal on 18,000-mile 2.87 gear-sets.....
