No real large group of owners out there. Just looking for more general mechanical help, I guess. I'm going to post, if people can help that would be great.
I've got a classic car that sits for periods of time between drives. It was about a month in between the last starts. I went to start it this time and it will not fire. Not even a single cylinder coughing while cranking. The car ran fine last time I took it out, it was hard to start but it did and it ran. Came back into the garage and parked it. Now nothing. Checked the timing, seems ok. Replaced plugs, condenser, coil and starter. I am getting spark, the quality of the spark is hard to determine, but its enough to jump the gap on the plugs. Carb squirts fuel when you depress the pedal, doesnt leak when you are off. Compression in all cylinders roughly even. Still not even a hiccup while cranking.
What could of possibly changed that would cause this sudden no start condition? Any suggestions would be appreciated because I am out of ideas.
Ask here (C3 Gen or C3 Tech). Every time I have a problem with my "other car" I post a question on it's specific board (honda-tech.com, probetalk.com etc), and also ask it here. I ALWAYS get the right answer here first. Cars-are-cars, and the combined general technical knowledge of all the folks here is waaaayyyyy more than the other places.
Have you checked the Quality of the fuel in the car? The condition of the battery can also cause no start problems. If the battery is weak when you crank the engine over the starter can draw enough amperage to reduce the quality of the spark trying to jump the gap on the plugs.
I dont think the fuel is a problem, added stabil to it, and last time I started it I filled it with new gas. I will have to check on the spark while cranking, this is something I had thought about, but when I did a voltage test on the battery while cranking, it was only down about a volt which made me think it would be ok.
