I have an 80 and when the driver door is locked it will not unlock. Any suggestions at to the likely culprit/fix? I'm gettin tired of climbing in over the door.
Loose rod, broken rod (rare), loose rod-clip or a combination.
The outside lock uses a different rod to open/close the door than the inside pen and anti-theft switch. If your doorlock is still firmly in place, my guess is that the rod(clip) on the doorlatch let loose. Only way to be sure is to open from inside (well... no choice there 'ey? ), remove doorpanel and check the rods and clips.
My guess is one of the lock rods. Take the door panel off and observe the rods and you try to lock/unlock the lock itself. I had a problem with unlocking. After installing new door panels I was playing around with the locking mechanism. I discovered that by simply not threading the chrome lock tip that threads onto the rod that comes thru the arm rest I could slightly adjust the rod angle relative to the door. This fixed my locking issue. Go figure.
