Default 74 question

Could have sworn I did this already, but can't find the thread, forgive me if you've already answered.

I have a 71 but ordered a 74 interior to get the color I wanted, and there is a cut out in the lower right hand corner of the drivers dash pad that was not on the original 71.
I have tried to look for pics but can't make out what it is. Looks like an AC vent but Ecklers doesn't offer anything for it, so still wondering.

Any info or even a pic would be apreciated.

Thanks,
Jw

I have a '74...not sure what corner you're talking about. Can't find any good pics of the dash. Here's one from a '69 that seems identical to mine:

Tony,
Mine has a retacular cut out on the left dash pad by the drivers right knee. It's down low. the left side has the ball ac duct, and this is just on the other side.
I ordered the entire interior from corvrtte america, but had to order a 74 to get the silver that I wanted as silver wasn't offered in 71.

was all that clear? as mud?
Thanks for trying to help.

I keep my car in a warehouse, so I can't look at it right now. And, all the pics of my dash have that "corner" blocked by the steering wheel. I can't for the life of me picture what is/should be there. I'll be at the warehouse tomorrow. If you don't have an answer by then, I'll let you know.

Found a pic on E-Bay, driver's side, '71 ~ '77. I see the cut-out now. If I remember correctly, some sort of warning light(s) panel mounts in there...

Every pic I can find, the steering or a key chain is in the way.
Any explanation would be apreciated.

Thanks again,

74 owner here. That rectangular cut out is for an AC vent.

Goingbroke,
Thanks for the info, now tell me, what vent is used? will the same ones that are in the console work? how do they mount.

I can't find anything from Ecklers or Corvette america on that part.

Thanks,
Jw

The outlet for that small vent comes from the duct within the center console. Just left of that cut out (shown in the above pic) there is a joint.....then another piece of duct runs across under the column to the ball vent at the far left hand side.

Edit....the Zip catalog actually calls that piece behind the console the distributor assembly. Their drawing shows that opening in the assembly for that small vent.

1974 -1977 air conditioning cars had that vent. It was called a lap cooler.
