I take it you just painted. The bike shop and paint shop waits like 30 days. It takes 30 days for the clear coat to completely harden. It is poissible to do it not long after but it is not recomended.

Check the tech sheet for the clear that you used for the optimum time to wait. Some of the modern clears can be buffed the same day and can get very hard if you wait too long. I would say most clears should be buffed the next day.
