thought i had a lifter go or a head gasket blown. found out it was a header gasket instead. i have hedman headers and hedman says not to use anything but headman gaskets, is this true or i can i use a better gasket so this doesn't happen again...
I used Fel Pro gaskets and sealed them with high temp red Permatex. I had used the same gaskets over about 3 times while removing the headers. I am treating it to new ones this motor but will use the same procedure. No leaks ever. I do use copper on the collecters.
I don't think it matters what make the gasket, as long as a quality copper one. Lets face it, there are only a few gasket making companys who produce them under many different names. (Headman, Hooker, Mr.Gasket etc..)
Its a "get out of the paying the warranty" ploy.
"Unless you use GM parts, we won't warranty it"
In their defense, a lot of people will try and use some old piece of junk to cobble together some new parts, and then try and warranty the new parts when it doesn't work.
