Default Scam??

So I replied to an ad for a '69 big block and got the following reply. I'm pretty sure it's a scam but I have never run across anything like this myself. What do you guys think?

Reply:
Hello,
As the seller, I would like to take a moment to personally thank you for
your interest in my Chevy. I know that you have many choices out there and I appreciate your interest. I hope you are serious in your intention for buying. Don`t take it personally, but I am tired
with people who offer to buy my car and in the end they turn out to be scammers, offering to pay me with some sort of fake checks or money orders. Anyway, the car is available and I guess you could be it`s owner if everything turns out all right and you are serious about buying. Let me tell you a few things about it : the car is in excellent condition, everything works and there is no sign of rust anywhere. The title is clean and fully transferable. It is built for US market, it fully meets all US emission standards and you will have no problems whatsoever registering it there. It has 40806 original miles. All numbers matching. Vin Number: 194679S735047. Let me tell you a few things
about it: 1969 Corvette Coupe with only 40,000 miles!! It has a 427/435 L-71 with an M21 close ratio 4 speed. 3.70:1 posi rear. AM/FM stereo, power windows, power steering power brakes, F-41 suspension, rear window defogger, tilt/telescoping wheel, all original and working. All numbers match and are original.I can provide more photos and
info if you like, and if you are indeed interested in buying. The car
belonged to my late husband, who died 8 months ago serving in the UN peace keping force detached there from Italy. He took great pride in his car and loved it a lot, but I really don`t like this kind of classic cars, I just don`t see it as a woman`s car. I preffer driving arround in my 911 Porsche. This is why I decided to sell the Chevy. I am located in Milano, Italy. My final price on this is US 6800$. I know it seems a little low, but I will be quite happy to get rid of it, believe me, ever since my husband passed away, it just sits useless in my garage, and nothing would make me happier than to know that the car will be taken care of and loved as my husband Daniel did. If you will take this price, I am willing to pay for shipping and insurance to your location. I ONLY accept payment though a third party service, which will ensure the funds and hold them until you have the car there, and will guarantee I get the money after you have the car. If you are an honest buyer, I believe you will have no objection to this. I also agree to have the car shipped back to me on my expense if you find it unsatisfactory in any way other than described, in which case you will be fully refunded. I do
not know pretty much about theese machines, but I will be happy to assist you in any way. Please get back to me asap if you decide to buy, I can provide more photos and info if we can close this deal.

So what do you think? Smell funny, or downright nasty?

Default scam

It's a scam. It's always somebody died and I just want to get rid of the car. I am overseas and agree to shipping blah blah blah. Do not respond to this person.

I posted a thread the other day with almost the same email you received. I like to play with these kind of jerks so I replyed and ask for photos of the vin number on the windshield column, photos of the engine number on the block and a photo of the trim tag. What I got was a link to a website
http://usera.imagecave.com/thensen99/Vette/
which looks like great photos of someone's 69 Vette but it looks like they are taken in the US somewhere. What do you think, I can't make out the tag on the Camaro in the driveway behind it. I replyed back and told her (him) to either send the photos I requested of forget it. No reply back.
Sorry just tried the link and the account is now disabled.

Well, good for you for coming to this forum to confirm your suspicions, but I am a little disturbed that there was even the slightest doubt in your mind!!!!

Default Big Time Scams on EBAY

I inquired about a restored number matching 67 big block advertised on ebay. I thought it was a mistake when the buy it now price was set at $6,500.00. I got a return email saying that the buy it now price was correct but the car was located in Athens Greece at the port in customs. He further told me that he could not afford to pay the import tax on the car and so he just wanted to sell it. Further, he said the car was still registered in the US and no import tax would have to be paid. He would not give me the VIN # or his last name. I also saw a 57 vette advertised for $6,500.00 that was a similar add with the a msn email address.

The guy is saving old ebay auctions and reposting them and slightly changing the info.

Be carefull.

i saw a really nice looking 77 for 6100 bucks (buy it now on ebay), and when i sent an email looking for better pics, the seller 'mentioned' the car was in ireland, and he couldn't afford to have it changed over to 'right hand drive'.
and usual with i'll pay the shipping, yadda yadda yadda......

Unfortunately, it's the selected few who don't ask questions that get taken by this scam. If it weren't so successful, these loser's would've disappeared a long time ago.

definitely a scam...my tip off: nobody refers to a corvette of any year as "my Chevy". That's just not right.

I inquired about this same car about 2 months ago they had pics and everything, but the car was in England not Italy, but all the same specs for the car. When I checked the VIN they gave me it was for a convertable, but all the pics were for a coupe. When I ask, whats up with the VIN, I never heard from them again.
