Default Heat Riser: What Lubricant?

I thought I remember being able to purchase a lubricant specifically for the heat riser valve. Does not seem to exist any more, so what should be used?

I don't use anything on mine. Scrape off the rust and any build-up inside every few yrs if needed.

Okay, I figured out the real problem. The stop was bent which allowed the valve to go a little too far closed, and then it would stick. Once I fixed the stop everything is much better. I did work some graphite into the shaft and that cured the little squeak it had, not sure how long that graphite will last. Thanks for the advice guys.

I think most lubricants would fry at the temps on the exhaust manifold...and you'd end up with sticky residue (which is not what you want). Unless there is some hi-temp lube out there, it would probably be best just to clean it out (carb cleaner, etc.--when cool, of course) and keep it working freely.

You did good ... graphite will endure the temps.
