Default Engine no start problem...

Ok, so I'm getting spark, getting fuel and getting air, but no ignition.

454 with a new Holley 750 DP (out of the box) with an electric choke on it.

Can you check and set timing without the engine running? I found out that my distributor is loose enough to turn it by hand (takes some force) and with the motor mounts out (and tranny/clutch) the distributor might have touched the firewall and rotated some.

I'm not even getting the occasional pops or sputters. The motor just turns over...

Check for spark at a couple of plug wires. If there is a spark, advance the distributor (counter-clockwise). Close counts. Work the throttle to see if the carb. accelerator pump is squirting fuel. If yes, then it should fire off.

WHen this happened to me, it was a bad ignition module. Everything seemed to be working, but no start. Part cost me $13.

Make sure you're getting enough voltage at the coil. Sometimes what you see is not what you get.

So far I have only checked one spark plug wire, so I'll check the rest now.

The carb is squirting fuel into the butterflies.

KALAWAY: No ignition module to speak of... MSD billet tach drive dist, MSD 6AL box, MSD coil.

sly vette: I'll check the voltage at the coil, thanks.

Other friends have thought that maybe the carb came jetted way too lean from the factory...

A friend recomended I open the idle screws a full turn so here is what I did:

Cracked all the idle screws open 1 full turn, and it sputtered. Gave them another 1/2 turn and it fired up, and idled at about 500rpm... turned the dist a bit and it idles better now. Time for a timing light.

Loud as **** open headers, I forgot how loud that can be. Now I've gotta get some exhaust built for it... and then tune it a bit, drive it and break in the clutch and then dyno tune it.

Oh, and it seems that my clutch is not releasing completely either...

Thanks for the help, advice.
