keep in mind the main differences between the two products.

Reflectix is a foil based product that is designed to be a heat barrier.

Dynamat is an asphalt based product with a primary function of a sound reducer. This is why dynatmat is very popular in the car audio industry. They do offer products that also offer heat barrier properties but the primary design of Dynamat products is for sound dampening.

Based on that, although Dynamat is the best product for what it's designed to do, a product such as Reflectix will be better if your primary goal is reducing heat. Reflectix is also much less expensive although that should only be a secondary criteria for you.

I just helped a friend redo the carpet in his '79 Greenwood and we used Reflectix as a heat barrier under the carpet. He purchased 2 of the 16" wide rolls for a total of approx $38-$40. We used all of one roll and only a little of the second roll.
you will also need approx 1 can of the 3M spray adhesive to put down the reflectix. The 3m spray glue will run you approx $10 a can.

I've seen it there too but I got my roll in Dixieline (dunno of there's one near you or not)

One roll did my car with plenty to spare. It's still noisey as hell inside but at least the car is cool to ride in now.

For added insulation from sound and heat, you could put down Frost King first. It is available at Lowe's and HD, but more expensive per sq ft than Reflectix. FK is about 1/8 inch thick self adhesive foam with foil on one side. The foil provides a good surface for the Reflectix to stick. I covered the underside of my trans tunnel with FK and it worked real well.

I just ordered 2 box's of Dynamat from Summit 72sq.ft. @ 409 bucks! Summit has the best deal. I already installed Zero Clearance http://www.coolandquiet.com/ under the body, Tunnel & floor. Gonna be cool and quiet!...

I used both... Dynamat under directly on the body covered by Reflectix. Best investment I've made... much quieter and cooler!

do it right the first time and use both! i went banannas when i redid the interior. multiple layers of insulation and dynamat. it makes a huge difference. recently, while doing the rear suspension i applied more dynaamat on the outside of the battery/storage area and it got rid of alot of rear and tire hum. spend alot of time when you do it and go up on the firewall as high as you can. multiple layering throughout the tunnel area. have fun

i used extreme dynomat for my whole interior..... it's a sound/heat barrier.... asphalt/foil..... if u use it, make sure u clean the surface from dust/debris and when u lay it all out, go back over it with a heat gun and heat it up and press harder.... it'll soften the ashpalt/rubber and you get a better stick...... i need a few more layers on my rear deck (due to my audio setup)...... check ebay or some smaller shops for it.... the audio stores will charge u an arm and a leg...... i think i ended up spending around 100 bucks (at cost) for 72 square feet i think and i had some left over....

Carpet out, glass prepped:

After Dynamat everywhere and paint in the rear compartments:

After the Dynamat, I laid down a layer of Reflectix on the footwells, firewall, and tunnel.

I use nuprene for sound deadener. Far superior to asphalt Dynamat and a lot lighter also. Boeing uses this material in jets for sound deadening and 1 sheet weighs less the 1.5 lbs. 1/8" nuprene equals 3/4" of Dynamat for sound suppression, houstonvett

where did you order it from and what costs would I be looking at for a vert? I assume that you would lay the neoprene down first then the reflectix or does it matter as long as you have enough 3m cement aprayed down.
I like this idea as neoprene . is far easier to work with then the asphalt based deadeners.

Dynamat Xtreme is a great product.

For those worried about added weight and costs, the Frost King works well considering it's lighter weight and low cost:

I also lined the inside of the wifes 1973 with this. Made a very noticeable difference. There's a lot of products out there - to fit each persons individual goals.

Hey guys, dense question here, but when you installed dynamat/reflectix did you glue it down with 3m and then glue the carpet onto the dynamat/reflectix ? I guess I'm asking if each layer is glued to the previous if you have multiple layers ..?

Thanks!
