I just noticed today when you search a car, in the right side of the auction (before you open it) it tells what state the car is in and how many miles from you... cool when did they start that?
It seems to be in the customized display settings for ebay that you do this, it doesn't do it for me, but I looked at the customized options and there it is
You should see near the top of the listing a drop down that says "sort by" it's usually set to ending soonest, I believe, but you can set it to newly listed, nearest, cheapest, etc.

I use the "nearest first" to search for furniture and items that people don't want to ship. Buyers outside of driving distance won't be bidding on these things, so you can usually strike a (good) deal with the seller before auction end.
