Can anyone tell me why my gas tank looks tilted to the rear? Is the support bracket in wrong, or in the wrong location??
Thanks,
Sly By the way it's a '69 'vert

I think you simply need to loosen the straps and tilt it correctly.
The rear of the tank should sit on top of the rear of the frame.
Fairly sure that the little hump on each side of the tank should sit
at the rear of the bolt-on support ... not the front.
Once in place, the filler boot should be fairly level.

Once in place, the straps should be nearly impossible to install
without a long bolt.
I'll try to get a pic or two tonight.

Do you have an AIM ? My 70 AIM shows the tank install in
section 8 - sheet B1

You are probably going to kick yourself about now, but I think you have the support brace upside down. My '79 doesn't have as much drop and with it raining and no shoes on, I'm not headed out to check the '68.

Do a search on C3 chassis pictures on the web and ebay and you'll no doubt find some still in place stock.

And yes your front tank support bracket is installed correctly.

Back of tank goes on top of the rail. Your tank is too far forward. This pic shows it:

Here's mine from the bottom. Notice that the front of the straps come almost straight down and hook into the cross brace. Any farther forward and you won't be able to lower the body onto it. Like the others said, the back goes over the frame.

Try this. The support crossmember looks as though you need to turn it 180. I believe you have the right side of the crossmember on the left side of the car. Also you may want to install some anti-squeak between the tank and mounting surfaces. Dr. Rebuild carries this.
Good Luck

I agree the tank needs to be further to the rear and over the frame. I just put mine in, with the body on. I don't remember on the crossmember, but I do remember it took me a while to figure mine out even looking in the assembly manual. The straps are a chore to hook up if it's in correctly.

I don't know about the position of the tank. However, What did you coat the tank with? I have rust on my 82 tank. Since replacements are hard to find, I want to remove my tank, sand the rust, treat the tank with a rust stopper, and paint it. However, your tank looks like it would never suffer from rust.

The frame is just the way I want it, and the gas tank is coated with a sealant so it will never rust. Thanks to those of you with comments that will actually help me solve this problem. I see now that I do in fact have the tank way to far forward. I will rectify this problem today, and show some pics. with the tank in the proper position. Thanks again to all of you who took the time to help me .
Later,
Sly
