Default Weld Wheels

Has anyone tried to put Weld Pro Stars on their car? I have a 79 and I put Moroso 3 " wheel studs in my rotor and I don't even get 1 thread through the rim. The problem seems to be that the rotor is too thick, keeping the stud back. I'm thinking about putting the rotors on the drill press, opening up the holes and setting the studs down in. I would be losing the knerls but I could back them up with a weld. Has anybody been into this before?

hahahahha, I hope you're not doing all that just to help me out.....
Back to the rotors, what do you think about the countersinking and welding of the studs? I will eventually go to Wilwoods but I wanna get them fitted now.

Not sure if I understand what your problem is

You pressed in 3" long wheel studs and they're too short ??? I just installed 12mm metric ARP studs and they are shorter than 3" but fit great.
Mine are (I think) 2" long and have a .485" knurl diameter. I drilled the rotor/hub to 11.9mm (15/32") to get a press fit for the knurl.

I would not weld the studs, who knows what material the studs and the hubs/rotors are made of and what post weld heat treatment is required to prevent stress and cracks ?

the hub on weld prostars is 1 1/2 " thick, plus a 7/16 spacer. your at 2 inches already. Is that correct? the hub about 3/4 inch? how much would you countersink ?

When I was running my Weld Racing Rodlites (15x4 in front and 15x8 in the rear) I used a wheel adapter up front to clear the front calipers. In the rear I used a 1/2" spacer to clear the rear calipers and machined a longer shank on the lugnuts. Good luck, Joe.

I just measured 2 inches of stud sticking out, 5/16 of that is the no thread part of the stud. It appears that part of my problem is that they gave me studs that I didn't ask for. I need full thread studs.

I thought about the adapter but saw they were about a buck and a half. I thought that money would be better spent towards some wilwood calipers to solve my clearance problems

I have to use like a 7/16 spacer and these (see pic) to fit them on my car. I don't use them on the rear.

update:
it seems that the only wheel studs that will give me the length I needed were ARP#100-7713. Course, ARP won't have them in for a month. GM has 3 1/2 inch studs that (for some reason) go on 79 camaros. I ordered 2 sets at $5 per stud. Will give it a shot again on Friday when they come in>
