A question about shock absorber replacements.

I'm doing a full brake job on my 71. After I removed the wheels, I noticed that the shock absorbers look ancient, dirty, rusty, and old as heck. I never noticed a bad ride due to old shocks but the thought of new brakes, new rear leaf spring, U-joints, and SS parking brake stuff with old dirty looking shocks kills me. The time to replace them is now while I'm under the car and in the mood. I want to stay as original as possible so....what shock(s) should I buy to put on the car? I don't have a ton of money so Blistiens are out.

KYB"S....cheap and better than Delco's IMO...

yep, kyb's...i second that. have kyb's now, good ride / price but upgrading to bilsteins soon

I just put a set of KBYs on mine. I purchased them through thier websight ($82.00 total) and they arrived in a few days.

It improved the ride, made it feel better in the corners etc.

The KYB Gas-A-just are definately an improvement over what you have now. In 2004 I had to pay $150 for the set, now you can find them on sale for less than $100/set.

The Bilstein shocks are a lot better (I "upgraded" last year)

Since you never noticed a bad ride, why not clean and spray-paint the old shocks ?? save some money for the Bilstein shocks ... Just my 2cents...
