Rocker Trim Refinish
My rocker trim is in good shape with no scratches, dents or dings but the finish is dull. What's the best way to refinish. Are they stainless or aluminum. These are originals & I prefer not to replace them with reproductions.

The anodizing dulls out over the years. I sanded the anodizing off on mine and spent a fair amount of time on my buffing wheel with white rouge compound to shine them up. The effort was well worth it, but it is a dirty, and time consuming job. Beats paying $300+ for new ones though. I also re-painted the black stripe after buffing. I hit them with Brasso or Mothers aluminum polish every now and then and they continue to look great after 2 years.

I took a die grinder with some 3M pads and removed the anodizing and the nicks. Then I spent some quality time with some different grits of sandpaper. Starting around 400 and working my way up to 1500. Then I polished them on the buffing wheel with some rouge and really like the results.

I am assuming you mean clear coat the rocker. No, I just left it as it turned out. I just hit it with Mothers or something every now and then to keep the shine. Pretty easy to keep up now. Just have spend a little time on the creeper every now and again. No big deal.

Thanks! That photo looks great.
How come all of you guys use your mother's polish? Why don't you get your own? And why do your mothers have polish anyway? Are they into cars too?

Thanks for the info. guys
I am out of town right now but I plan to go the sandpaper & buffer wheel route this week end. Looks like a tough job but well worth the effort.
