The pics you've posted aren't chrome plated fibreglass. The fibreglass insulator has been mechanically fixed to the metal covers.....as you can see in YOUR photo below:

Below is a pic of the NOS covers from Ebay

I can't tell you if your neighbors are NOS or reproduction, but they are not chrome plated fibreglass. Your neighbor should be able to get at least $1800 for the pair as a quick sale deal; keeping in mind that they sell for $2200 to $2400 from the vendors

BTW, very nice Buick you have there

The outer shell is chrome plated metal, there is an inner liner or fiberglass heat shield-insulator. This is visible in a few of the photo's. The heat shield or insulator is the thin black section and they attach the unit to the car.

IMHO, used or not, they're still second hand and I wouldn't spend $2,000 for a set of second hand covers when you can get new one's from Paragon for $2,200. But I guess there might be some takers out there.

When mounted I don't think anyone will notice the difference between new originals and the repro's Paragon produces.

Yeah - agree they definitely look metal.

Love the Buick .... my very first car was a red base 350 1972 Buick Skylark.
Looks like your GS is a 72 also.

The two end pieces can be removed via the two screws/bolts on the inside. The ends just slip off. Then you would only see the fiberglass insulator.

That's what I've read somewhere. Also, I think some of the metal/most of the metal/all of the metal??? is cast aluminum.

Default GM part #s

Thank you ! I did take them apart, and sure enough there were the GM part #s 3948021 front left and 3948023 exhaust exit side left. These were bought from Jackshaw chevrolet in Cleveland, Ohio which is now lakeshore chevrolet. The lady does not have the boxes or the original receipt though ! Gary
