stereo that is, i just won a bid on ebay (item # 4615129174)he said it came from a 73 but it would fit 72(that i know) but my question is are 72/73 exactly the same if not what is the difference,i dont want to put this radio in if is not the same as 72 (this is one of 2 items im missing to have my car complet)
The diffrence is the plug between the convector and the 72 also has two diffrent box's(stereo) one small and one large. The 72 plug going into the radio from the large convector is round where the 73/74 is flat.

so if i get a 73 complet radio (stereo)w/the convector it will work?also the looks of the radio (ones mounted )will look the same as 72?
If your question is will a radio that fits the instrument bezel for a 1972 fit the instrument bezel for a 1973, the answer is yes.
The difference in the electrical connections for stereo vs mono may be different. But the physical size of the opening and the distance between the ***** are the same.
no my question is if the 72/73 looks the same(*****,color, botons, face)so if i put it in my 72 u r not going to be able to see if its a 72 or a 73 stereo
Ok. Now I understand, and cant answer that question at all.
I have a 72 and a 73, and neither one has the original radio anymore.
The 72 has a newer style CD player where the PO cut the bezel to fit, and the 73 has an aftermarket, but stock looking unit.

Other than the plugs in the rear of the radio you will not know any difference. The radios have the same face plate's and *****.
I found this over on the NCRS board's archives from back in '99. It was posted by Joe Lucia:
As far as non-stereo radios go during the 1968 to 1976 time period, there were 3 different part numbers. From 1968 thru 1971 the radio(receiver) part number was GM #7302721. This radio used very light green characters for the radio dial and "Delco" script in the lower right corner of the face. The PRIMARY shafts for each side radio control were 3/8" long.
For 1972 to 1973, the radio part number was GM #7937571. This unit was IDENTICAL to the above, EXCEPT the radio dial and "Delco" script were white. Otherwise, the type font and script were identical to the 7302721. The PRIMARY shafts were 1/2" long.
For 1974 to 1976, the radio part number was GM #9344651. As far as I know, the radio was identical to both the above EXCEPT that the font style was slightly different(but white in color). I believe that the shaft configuration was the same as the #7937571. The chrome bezel MAY have been slightly different in configuration or finish.
Incidentally, stereo radios were exactly the same in configuration for any given year except that stereo radios had a small indicator in the upper right hand corner of the face which illuminated when the radio was tuned to a stereo broadcast station. There were 4 different part numbers. For 1968 thru 1971, the radio was GM #7303211. For 1972 only, it was GM #7937581. For 1973 only, it was GM #9341341. For 1974 thru 1976, it was GM #9344661.
