Ok, Driving the other day and I nail the gas, the vette takes off good and hard no sputtering or anything just flat out goes. Then about 2 seconds later it stumbles bad almost cuts off, I let off the gas and it catches up and runs fine. So I go about 5 miles vette is running good I try it again, same thing goes good but after about 2 seconds stumbles bad I let off the gas and it runs fine. I can drive it fine but I can't nail it?
I pulled the fuel filter out and it looked fine I replaced it anyway, but I did notice that the carb and the line were dry, which means to me that the fuel pump is not holding fuel and allowing the gas to drain back.
Bad fuel pump? causing this problem or should I look else were.
It's a 72 350 Automatic
It certainly sounds like a fuel delivery issue. If the weather or even the engine was very hot I would look for places the fuel line may be overheating, but more likely there is a constriction somewhere. The common places to look are in the sock filter in the fuel sending unit and the bends in the rubber hoses around the fuel pump. The hoses get kinked which can block the flow of fuel.
I had a similar problem that was solved by building a new pump to carb fuel line that was routed away from the engine block and used a big inline filter that flowed better than what I had been using.
Mine was doing that with a new fuel pump. But it still had the original qjet on it and lord only knows when it was rebuilt. Replaced it with 650 cfm......runs great now

sounds like a fuel delivery problem for sure.....could be a blocked line or a bad fuel pump.....my guess is the fuel pump died....but don't rule out a blocked line
before you replace the fuel pump why not disconnect from the gas line and test it????
I got a new pump and I had already bought the new formed lines that go around the pump, so I think I'm gonna replace the pump and the lines and see how that works. The hard line from the pump to the carb looks to be in very good shape so I'm gonna leave that one alone for now.
