Randy... You can always buy it back! By the way... like all of your toys. Just showed my wife and I received the dreaded "whatever".

Take care and I agree with you on the value of this forum... this place is awsome for someone in his first years as a C3 owner.

Haha, that's exactly what I hope my house will look like in about 5 years (C3, C4, C5, C/K) only the colors will be different and I only need a 20ft boat!

I know you're not talking about the C5 and I don't think the silverado is faster than the C3!

I AM talking about the C5.

I've driven a C6 and it is finally comparable with my '69 C3. I have G-tech tested C5's and they are not up to the best of the '68 and '69 C3s.

Stock C5's aren't even close to a modded non smog SB, or the hot '69 factory options: 427/435's, L-88's, and ZL-1's. Since I wasn't old enough to drive when they built them, I don't mind if anyone builds their own.

A lightly modded C5 is 14% less powerful than my 355 SB and about 20% less powerful than a L-88 on a peak power basis. Of course they are not as thirsty.

just curious.
what's your 355 putting down to the rear wheels?
and the 68 and 69's would HAVE to be running mid to high 12's in the 1/4 mile to beat a well driven C5.
and I'm talking stock to stock, not modified.
not to mention the beating that they would get on a road course.

True stock to stock on a road course C5s would trounce a C3. On equal tires, not so - L88s, ZL-1s and 427-435's running 17" rubber similar to mine (Goodyear Eagle F1s) would do well on a fast enough track.

The G-tech shows my '69 at 320 RWHP. The following will provide a reference I have tested many cars/bikes:

I'm basically stock with the exception of an aftermarket air cleaner.

I had the car on a chassis dyno and I'm putting 324Hp and 333Tq to the rear wheels.

I don't think the Gtech is that accurate. a stock LS1 corvette should be between 295 to 315 at the rear wheels depending on transmission and rear gear ratio.

and on a road course the C3's will need a hell of a lot more than 17" wheels to even keep up with a stock C5!
there have been a lot of advances made in suspension technology in the last 40 years, and the over 40 year old chassis technology of the C3 cannot even begin to compete with a stock C5 without some major help.

First you replaced a good FI system with a carb (in a rolling door wedge), then you sold a C3 to get a C5?

If your Girlfriend has a Beetle, who drives all the Vettes and the truck?

If I find a woman who will let me have three Vettes a p/u and a boat I'd let her paint gay cowboys all over my house.

I did not sell the c3 to get the c5, I sold the c3 because I hardly drove it before, and with the c5, it would have just set out side and rusted away. Now from your post I can see you think that is a good idea, I don't. It just became the first vette for someone, and will be drove and taken care of.

Also, I posted this thread to say thanks for all the c3'ers that have helped me and never knew it. I did not start this post so you could take a cheap shot, and raise your post count. Randy
Overreact much? Yeesh. Personally, I'd rather drive a hot-rodded C3 than any C4 or C5 (except maybe a ZR-1). I just like the look much, much better.
