While powder coating is tough, its not bullit proof, chemicals eat it just like wet paint. To me the only advantage is its convient, drop it off, pick it up.Another advantage is to use it as a base to fill a pitted surface.

I have a Fjord Model A Zenith carb that I coated inside and out with Harbor Freight plastic powder (I think it's polyester) - the gas doesn't bother it a bit. The only way I've ever hurt powder coating is by impact or sandblasting, and that takes a lot of work.
Powder Coating is the way to go. Also do your fan and all your pulleys. These parts take a beating from all the small rocks and sand from the road.
