Default Engine builder recommendations?

Well summer is right around the corner and Im looking very seriously to get a new engine by the end of April. After reading the thread about the blue print engine blowing up I must say im quite skiddish about buying a engine online. I had originally planned to go with this they seem like a very professional builder but then so did blueprint... Im now considering engine factory as there only a few hours away in New Jersey. There prices are much higher and there hp numbers a little lower but there in driving distance hehe. There was another company on ebay arracingul that I was looking at but he didn't seem very professional. Does anyone have any recommendations on a good reputable builder? I haven't even looked locally yet I wouldn't know where to begin.

Any reputable business, will have a list of customers you could call to get feedback on their products. If you're serious about this engine (on EBay) then ASK...

While I've heard some horror stories, I've done about... $15K of transactions through EBAY, and I've never had a problem... I think... (((ahem))) a big factor is being realistic in your desires, and knowing what you're looking at...

That 408 looks like a sweet deal. I look at it THIS way: the big problems you will have with a new engine will be during cam break-in OR on the dyno, when you'll really find out if you screwed up, and the engine self-destructs. Since they send the engine with the dyno sheet...? I'd say it's WORTH further consideration.

JMHO.

Just my opinion, but I think I would go with a GM crate engine and the GM warranty to go with it. GM has several very good choices, and I believe you can work a pretty good deal through your local GM dealer (avoid shipping costs).

I think im going to try and get some more feedback on the ebay engine from t&l its everything I want just real skeptical since that blueprint engine thread . I thought about a gm engine but they dont offer much for the money there 383 is $4800 without a intake and hyper pistons I really want to go all forged. Thanks for the input thus far does anyone know of any places within driving distance (2-3 hours) of the poconos that might be worth looking into?

Default I have 383 Stroker Built by T & L

It is a first class operation. I went on-site prior to the purchase and it is a very professional operation. Lloyd McLeary the owner is top notch, I was fortunate enough that he personally built my engine. I also went on-site to see it dynoed and picked it up. I would have probably gotten the 408 but he wasn't building those at the time, it cost about $800 more. I have had my engine since May , 2005. It has not been on the road yet since I am doing a frame off, but I do start it every couple of weeks and no issues so far. At the time I purchased mine no one could beat their price for the same set-up.

I believe you would be happy if you purchased the engine from T & L. If you talk to Lloyd or his receptionist Holly, tell em Larry C. said Hello.

Have Fun!

Visit this thread and you can hear the engine run. and here is a pic too on their dyno at T & L.

I have had very good luck with theenginestore.com. Purchased a 383 short block from them and used my TF heads and RPM intake.

I checked the clearances myself, once the block was received. Everything dead nuts on.

Excellent workmanship, fair (not cheap) price.

Kent will work with you on any engine/parts you want.

They are in Winona, MN

Thanks for the replies guys! B71 I was watching your clips last night thinking to my self "that sounds bad ***" its really re assuring to know youve been there and met him and your engine seems to be real nice. I found this on google and it even list them as one of the builders. I think I have made up my mind on where ill buy my engine. I really appreciate your replies everyone.
