Dont have any pictures of her, but Is it safe to have my car on only four jacks, one jack under the frame located just below the ends of the doors really..... I haev my tires off i am going to be polishing them, and cleaning them up, tired of the dull look.
Also i will most likly do some work under the car, but is it safe to leave this up ijn the air oonly on 4 jacks(jacks can supposedly hold up to 6k lbs each.)??? Just making sure because im worried that it wont hold right, it doesnt look ssafe at allll...........

1. jacks, or jackstands? If jacks, what kind of jacks?
2. Where do you have these 4 jacks positioned? I am only reading a description of where one jack is placed.

3. The answer to your question is "no." Not safe for you to work under this car.

its ok to leave it on the jack stands like that, but its not safe to be working under it with just jack stands. get some ramps under it, plus the stands, and you should be fine.

jacks can fail. NEVER EVER get underneath a car with out either jackstands or ramps installed. we cant afford to lose friends by being stupid!

you wouldnt beleive it, but ive used stacked 4x4s before to hold the vette up. we had the entire car resting on them for about a week before when we had all the wheels off.

i didnt like the idea to start off with, but ill be honest, those things are very sturdy. of course i sure as hell still dont reccomend working under the car like that.

1 or 2 4x4's work fine

another-user: how is it not safe to work under a car supported by jackstands? I thought that was the point of them. Just a jack by itself isn't safe because they can leak down or tip easier, but jackstands are usually pretty sturdy.

I've never had any qualms about getting under a car properly supported by jackstands. By "properly supported" I mean:
1) of a proper (preferrably far greater) load capacity
2) safety pins in
3) on a reasonably level surface
4) jackstands all set to hold the vehicle as close to level as possible
5) in a proper location on the frame

I've had a 6+ ton fire truck on jackstands and it didn't move a bit. If a car on jackstands is shaking, the stands are unstable for some reason (bent?) or not properly set against the frame. My $0.02.

If my vette is on the garage floor, evenly supported by well place jackstands with the pins in....I'll sleep under that f**ker!

You beat me to it! I saved this picture as well. Note that this mechanic has a "safety" block of wood as well as the primary stand.

Well said Batman. Meet all of the above and you're safe.

I had mine on jack stands all of last winter (3 months) and I spent a lot of time under the car. I did the cam swap, motor mounts, complete exhaust system, tranny mount, U joints, rear diff. fluid to name a few...

Good luck.

I may be wrong, but I believe the purpose of jack stands is to keep the car elevated so that work can be done underneath it. A couple of things to consider when buying jack stands is their rated weight capacity (which usally is not major concern for a passenger car), how wide the base is, and how high they'll go. Typically, the higher the capacity the wider the base. I don't feel uncomforatble working underneath the car with the ones I have now. I never go under the car without them. A car only on a jack is an accident waiting to happen.

I spent some time under my car yesterday replacing the differential bracket cushions on the cross-brace. I used jack stands, but left the 2 floor jacks in place for added insurance (weight on the stands, but jacks up against the frame towards the door post).

Don't take chances under the car. Plenty of people have paid the price of getting under a car that is just supported by a jack.

Good luck.

Dave

You can even get killed being under the car while it's on the ground!:
