Default Possible Scam

Got this months Corvette Trader, an ad for a 68 Corvette, numbers matching 427-435hp 4-spd car, $26988.00, located in British Columbia. I called, asked and received photos of the car, palm trees in the back ground, don't think so. Talked to the owner, seemed nice, made him an offer, he accepts and wanted me to do a wire transfer to his bank. No thanks.
I asked why he was selling the car, he says he needs to get rid of some cars, not enough room, then in the next breath said he just purchased two small block cars. I am thinking, why buy more if you don't have the room for the one you are selling?
Anyway, as the saying goes, if it's too good to be true, then it isn't true.

Have you asked in various parts of the forum if there's another Corvette owner in BC that could go look at the car? At least they could verify that the car exists, has good title, and is as-advertised.

When I bought my car, I noticed that the pics weren't quite right - corvette front plate instead of an Ohio front plate. Everything turned out OK, though.

As an alternative I told him that I would come up and look at the cae then we could go to the bank. He said the deal was starting to get to complicated, I said yah, right and left the conversation.
I have his name and address and am going to do some further investigating.

Thanks for the replies.

When I bought my car, the pics and other details didnt figure either. Some of the pics were archive's from the past.. ect. It all turned out to be on the up and up.

Thats alot of money, but if it is what he's advertizing, it may be a score for you to get into it. Definitly Have it gone over by a vette pro who knows how to verify it, especially that "Matching numbers" part. Thats where scams get pulled off. Otherwise that car would be 10K less, and then only If you really liked it.

Maybe it is what he says it is, I'd sure do big research on it before I got interested enough to buy it.

69vetster;

Just what I wanted to do. I was going to take a ride up, look at the car and if it was as he described, go to his bank and do the deal. But, he said that this was too complicated. I had to laugh, asked him what was so complicated about me looking at the car? I thought from the get go it was a scam, but as you say, you never know.
These guys try to gain your confidence and then bank, your f---ed with all capital letters.
I told him, if I can't see the car no sale. Haven't heard from him.

I see, yep, that smells like it could be a outright rip off looking for a sucker. Interesting to hear what you find out.

I've heard that with all the reported scams on Ebay, the scammers are branching out to other online venues like Craig's List, Autotrader, etc. Plus, there seems to be an explosion of amateur or hobby dealers that are convinced they can buy and resell cars like collectables on ebay.

That is a lot of money to spend sight unseen. No way I would part with $27,000 on a total strangers word. I am sure BC has some Forum members!

I want to keep it simple: You send me money, I keep money. Anything else is just
TOO COMPLICATED

Why do you have to go and make things so complicated?
I see the way you're
Acting like you're somebody else gets me frustrated
Life's like this, you
And you fall and you crawl
And you break and you take
What you get and you turn it into
Honesty Promise me I'm never gonna find you fake it
