Default 1979 Hood insulation question

The insulation was missing from my 79. I bought replacement but here's my question. How much or how far down should it go? The piece I bought seems to be longer than what was in the car (from what I can tell). Anyone have any pics of what it should look like?... Tony.

Think there is a difference between L-82 and L-48 on length..mine is short on the 78 L-82...

On my '79 L48 it's a short one. Covers about half the hood.

On my 78 hood, you can see a "Layout" (round circle of dots) beyond hood insulation...where additional pins could be installed..but never were used...I thought it had to do with difference in air intake over radiator..(L-48 vs L-82).???

Here is pic of mine...you can make out pin locations not used beyond bottom of insulation pad......when I purchased the replacement from GM,they said the "half" pad was correct for L-82....
I have seen many 79 L-48 and one 78 L-48 with the long pads...

I had this same question not long ago when I got my 79 painted and replaced the insulation.

The old insulation I had covered the whole underside of the hood, but the new insulation I got only covered half of it. I kind of like the looks of the smaller pad.

From what I found, the half hood insulation is most likely the original.

My car had also been painted back in the 80s and I think they added the long insulation then, but don't know for sure. As another suggested, I suppose it's possible that it varied based on model even within the same year.

Here's an old thread where I asked the same question:

ZIP has two choices...GM style half mat for 76-79 and a full hood mat(not noted as GM style) for 76-79......
Not sure what that means...(have not received AIM for 78 yet....)
Found nothing at Dr Rebuild for 78-79...
