Default Head Light Issue

Well after participating in a St. Patrick's Day Parade in Chesapeake City Maryland on the 18th. I headed off on a long cruise down to see my folks in SW Virginia - Bedford County to be exact. She ran great, got pretty good gas mileage for and 81 (19 mpg). Normally on short trip just around Baltimore I never noticed my left front head light assemply sitting out front bouncing up and down or viberating with "lights on" to every road bump. Apparently the door does a pretty good job of smacking the opening cause I noticed "chips" in the paint (My brand new paint job too - darn it!). Now with patience, I can touch these places up with a good paint brush and you won't notice them (but I will still know they are there). My question is this - are there adjustments to tighten up that head lamp assemply to keep it from bouncing up and down? The right side appears to be as tight as a drum in the up/lights on position.

YEP, they have an adjustable bump stop. The service manual will tell youy how to adjust, if someone doesn't chime in. I would, but I have misplaced my manual and can't find it.

May help a little

I would also look closely at the pivot bushings.
If it's loose at the pivots, the stop isn't going to help much.
The thread above describes the stops well.
Lastly, it could also be the headlight assembly is loose
where it bolts up to the steel body reinforcements.
This should be obvious during inspection.

Looked in the shop manual and it isn't very clear on where the "UP" bolt is located - anyone got any pictures of this?

I have a decent pic of my 75 assembly - removed and upsidedown.

The "stop" is the rusted steel bar that runs vertically on the
left side of the picture. These are on the outboard side of the assemblies.
The adjustable bolt/nut are on the end of the stop. This contacts
the edge of the fixed headlight assembly frame when raised.
I did not have any rubber bumpers on mine - and I don't see
any shown in my '70 AIM.

Here's the pic:

Dude! Thanks so much for the picture, now I know what I am looking for when laying on my back looking up at the bucket.

Yup ... and if you remove the bezel and headlight buckets,
you will basically have what I show. At that point, you might even
be able to adjust/inspect from the front.

Be careful with the stops. They are bolted onto the side of the
headlight cover piece with two 1/4" bolts. These often corrode
the aluminum that they screw into and can break off.
Your worst situation is that they (or it) broke off. I have one like this,
and have not addressed the issue - yet. I think my only option is to
redrill new holes at new locations and reattach (if possible).
Other than that ... new cover (ouch).
Good Luck
