Sounds like both of your cars have 69 wheels. THey were reduced to 15" diameter, so it's easier to get into the car. Popular modification at the time. It's period correct, but not factory correct.
My April 68 car has a wood-toned 16" wheel. AFAIK, all 68s had the 16" wheel.

Have original plastic 16" wood whell. Now swapped for a real wood 14", MUCH better for a driver.
Also, on the 69 wheel, can't you see a metal ring running around the outside circumference of the wheel? On the 68, the wheel is all plastic around the circumference.

If you have an unblemished 68 wheel that you don't need, It'll probably fetch a good price on Ebay. These wheels tend to crack after 30 years or so.
i even remember swipping one of a 68 435 some years ago and that was the 69-75 as well
i have been to quite a few shows and this as you say is obviously quite common
i remember last year at carlise there was only one tri powere vette there and that was a 400
i wish he would have swapped the column to tt too in my 435 laughs
another one year wonder or blunder i guess
if i didnt get these cars so cheap i would have gotten a 69 or try to buy back my 67 i sold back in 1985 for 6500 which as it turns out now was a bad sell on my point but at the time the market that was a good price
i never liked the 68 with all the one year quirks especially the weak doors and that rigged door opening gear. kinda stupid but then again I am stuck with 2

I replaced my original with a 14" Grant wheel and it makes a HUGE difference in entry/exit and driving comfort. I have the near perfect (no cracks) original plastic/wood wheel hanging in the garage. The car is never going back to original, but I can't seem to want to sell the original wheel. Maybe if someone that was doing a restoration needed a very nice original wheel I'd sell it.
