Default 81 Frame Off Pics

Bought this 81 4 speed as a project for my 15 year old son and I to restore. If he stays on the honor roll, at graduation he gets the pink slip. Figure if he skins a few knuckles and sweats over it , he'll appreciate it when its done. Good education for him as well. Also a good bribe to spend some time with the "Old Man"

If there were more fathers like you, we'd have a lot fewer problems these days

The car doesn't look that bad to begin with. I would immagine that it should "clean-up" without too much difficulty.

What are your plans with the engine? Is it going to be kept stock? It looks like all the parts are there to do a nice factory original restoration (even though I'm into the modified engines myself).

I love the lines of the 80-82 Corvettes. Keep us posted as to the progress.

Thanks for the comments, folks!

We plan on doing some modifications to the engine to bump it up to 300-350 horses, but will stay as original as possible with all thats visible. This was my dream car in 1981 and at 19 I couldn't afford one so next best thing is to restore this one for Josh.

You hear a lot these days of kids being wild and wrecking things, some commentary here on letting kids drive vettes, etc...

I believe if you respect your kid, spend time with them, try and raise em right (God knows it ain't easy), they can be "stand up" people even at 16. He will have "progressive" driving rights as he proves himself with this car.

I'll tell you this, it will be worth every penny we put into this resto,to teach him the value of reward for hard work and to see the grin on his face the first day he gets to drive it to school!

His sister Morgan (10) is already asking if she will have her own corvette.

Fabulous! rootbeer for your son! Inspiration, goal, great time consuming hobby, and most important a lot of quality time with dad...everything a teenage boy needs in one package!

I totally agree jomor ! My son is 15 and we are doing a complete frame off on a '73 together. We have been working for 6 months together now and have had a blast. The car is his when he is done and I feel comfortable with his driving abilities.

I am glad to see you are one of the ones that agree on a teenager driving a vette at 16, Not much support on the forum here on this topic from what I read.

GOOD LUCK AND ENJOY THE PROJECT TOGETHER!

Looks pretty good under there. mostly just surface rust from what I can see.

Regarding Steeroids, I must admit that I've never driven a car with it installed, but I like the steering and handling of my stock 81 just fine. My $.02

that sideshot from the frame, looks like the frame is badly bent there where the # 2 body mount is.

Yeah, it does look bent, from that angle, but its where the frame angles inside the front wheels
