Default Need your thoughts!

My friend owns a salvage yard and has people calling regularly to remove old vehichles from thier property.Well they got a call to go see what is involved in removing an old F%^d from her garage.Turns out it's a
55' T-Bird.He will be getting it for free and wants to swap it for my 79'Vette.Now I don't want a T-Bird either but I can use it as a stepping stone to put me in an earlier C3 or maybe a rough C2.What would you if you were me?I have not yet seen this car, however it has been in the garage for 31 years.I know I need to see it first, but lets assume it's in decent shape.

a 55 Bird would be pretty cool wheels to roll around in, my son snagged a 64 a while back. Not sure I would trade a good drivin C3 in on it tho. What kind of shape are both cars in?

Don't know about the T-Bird yet,but the Vette is a 20/20 Driver.Interior is eh,paint looks good at a distance. It is 100% original and everything is still there. And there is no rust anywhere at all.Now don't get me wrong,I really like my 79',I haven't even got it registered yet,but if I can get into a 68-71 BB Vert...OMG!

If you think restoring a late C3 is expensive, wait'll you start buying parts for an early Bird. Assume you'll have to do some restoration to turn a profit.

My vote? Save your $$$ and then sell your car out-right when you have enough to buy the car you want.

here is one that looks like is maybe a driver that sold for 18,500.
So compare your condition to this one.

Consider what you'll put into the T-Bird approx. ($) and add what you have into the Vette ($=paid for it +parts) = $$$$$. Remember your trading, so you lose that investment off the top.

My vote, sell yours buy what you really want. (remember you ask)

Yes,I did ask and I appreciate all input.I'm just curious for opinions right now.The main thing to remember here is I have $5500 in my 79',cost of car included.I don't plan on puting anything in the T-Bird,just put right up for sale.So if I don't think I can make enough I will not trade.Like I said,I really like my 79',and it's almost ready to drive.

When you said it was in a garage for 31 years, do you mean it hasn't been started or moved in 31 years? That would mean it's due for a lot of work. On the other hand, I sold an unfinished '55 T-bird project (it ran and drove, no rust, just some issues to deal with) for $5500 back in 1982. As long as it isn't a POS, there should be no contest as to which car is worth more, that or your '79 Vette.

My sister drove a 56 t-bird for a couple of years, the parts are peculiar to only a couple of years which drives the price thru the roof. She and her hubby had it looking real good for about a year, then moved it while they could. Not a bad car, kinda like a helicopter, ride for an hour, work on it for an hour, just took a lot to keep it moving. Check the parts prices before you commit!!
