I'm going to buy a set a true dual kit from mid america
for my '81. I can't decide wether to go with the stainless ($299) or the aluminized ($229).
Has anyone here installed these pipes?
Will I need to do any bending?
I just bought s/s true duals from Allen's which I believe supplies Mid-America. Allen's will coach you through the whole selection process. In my case I have a '78 which I needed to still be emissions legal, but I wanted more rumble. I have talked to a number of exhaust people and they all say the stock cat is the issue. When talking to Allen's they told me that a stock pipe set up with a high flow cat would help but would not give me the tone they think I wanted. It was decided to go true duals with high flow cats on each, all stainless, including the mufflers. He said it would even sound better if I switched the mufflers to resonators, but the stock look from behind would be gone and decided to stay with stock look turbo flows. On a '78 I have a hole for true duals through the crossmember as well, so the pipes won't hang low. Now the catch is for all stainless, including mufflers and cats it was $900. You have to watch close because in the Vette catalogs it looks cheap up front, but if you want the mufflers and high flow cats then the price goes up. If you don't need cats you can lop of $250, and the mufflers in stainless are $200. I would give Allens' a call, and they will get just what you need. Allen's only does Corvette exhaust. their number is 574.722.7272 website: http://www.allencorvetteexhaustsystems.com/
