What should I be using to protect the paint behind the front and rear wheels on a '69? I have clear plastic mud flats clipped on now and I'd like to throw them off.... but I don't like the paint chipped up either. I've seen on a web site somewhere clear plastic that sticks to the paint but they didn't have them for a '69 behind the rear wheels.
The dreaded 68-69 curse. I have chips on my fenders, up my doors, and on the rear quarter panels. These cars just throw rocks. You might check with a body shop. There is a clear material, sorta like a tape, that can be applied directly to the body. I've seen it on other cars and didn't care for it. Looked like someone taped up their car. I just decided to live with it...
There are 3 types of plastic on the market that I know of. You might have to experiment to find what you like the best.
3M has "Scotchcal" which applies like a decal with a permanent adhesive backing. It can be removed but not reused.
Nip Chips - Is a molded piece for the front of the rear wheel opening from Ecklers and others), has double sided tape at the top and a screw at the rocker molding.
Cleartastic - is a static film from Ecklers for behind the rear wheel openings. Static film does have air bubbles though.
I looked at the same problem with my '69 and did not find much different than what is posted. I also run the clear plastic mud flaps that clip onto the wheel well lip. If you look closely at this picture you can make them out. Sorry for the size of the pic, but only way to see the plastic flaps.
