I'm not sure what years this is found on, but I really like the look of carpet on the sides of the center console. I think it makes the interior much cleaner.
I have a 76, and it doesn't have that... do I order a console for whatever years have said carpet, or a carpet set that will include it (since I need carpet anyway). Or do I have to do it myself?
The year that you may have seen is probably an 80,81 or 82. I have an 82 and the console sides are separate pieces. On a 76 the console is all one piece. You would have to make a custom application of this. It can be done but I think the look woulnd't probably be what you want. Here's why. The carpet kit that you would buy would have to be large enough to run up the sides of the console. Most kits are oversize but I doubt that you would have enough material. If you did have enough material to reach the top of the console you would need to get some trim so that the edge of the carpet wouldn't show. This can be done but you may want to consider the above points.
Good Luck
Steve

The carpeted sides were begun in 78 with the interior redo and slide into the console. The carpet pieces have stiff backing boards. I've taken mine apart enough to know them rather well. If you change out the console, some of the controls were changed in 77 like for example the heater A/C controls. It went to the slide controls whereas if I recall correctly, the 76 still had the thumbwheels.
