Default C3 Battery mount

I am a new owner of a 1974 convertible. I am wondering if these cars ever had a factory "hold down" inside the compartment behind the seat. If there was not a factory hold down, has anyone ever added something to secure it better?

Here's the clamp and bolt.

Thanks, that's pretty low tech - where'd it bolt to? Just the bottom of the compartment or was there a tray or something? My battery compartment has a piece of what looks like marinegrade plywood in the bottom, but it is not secured to anything.

The plywood is a "Bubbafication". There were hold-down bolts for the clamps in the bottom of the box. Most likely, as with mine too, yours have rotted away. I'm about to glass in new cloth, then I'll re-inforce the bottom from the underside with an aluminum plate. I'll then thru-bolt a typical battery tray into the bottom of the box.

If you like to work on your car, some people have solved this problem by finding a battery box at a junkyard. you can cut out yours and glass in the replacement.... thats if you can find a decent one to transplant.

or take TonySinclair's advice and fab something up thats not so bubbafied.
