Default Is this a fair estimate?

A mechanic is estimating around $700.00 to change the following:

Head gaskets
Valve seals
Headers
Intake Manifold
New carb and fuel line

TIA

Basically pulling the heads and new valve seals. The rest has to come off anyway. Not a bad price.
I'll tell you what. Fly me out there for a week and I'll do it for nothing!

not a bad price....

my audi dealership charges $95/hr now..... ridiculous.

I went and spent $250 on a VAG diagnostic tool... now i can plug my car into a laptop, read and clear all fault codes, and even recode certain parameters in the ECU. the days of spending $500 to change $30 in parts is OVER.

so, what your having done is probably going to be more than a days work... not a bad deal.

Just changing the intake gaskets would cost about $300 here...the seals involve more labor and the headers on top of that...so go for it...I think that is a very fair price including carb, head gaskets etc..

Jump on that one, unless you can do it yourself. Once the heads are off you can always have the seals done somewhere. But it's a fair price

You're going to the wrong shops Rich. It cost me $500 to have my engine pulled and reinstalled by a shop near me.

i'm calling it a night....i don't know what labor costs are where you are but if they are high that is not a bad price especially if he is going to tune it for you....if it was $500 i say you were getting a "steal"

Both head gaskets? That's a good price around here.

Yes, he does all the work on my Vettes that I can't do. And yes, he
tunes everything. He can tune the engines just by listening and test
driving the car. He has two Vettes of his own and he works on ALOT
of other Vettes around here.

I will be buying all the parts and he will do all the work. I just wanted
to see if that price sounded fair or not to everyone around here.
I already have the Heddman Elite series headers here.
I will purchase, as I did for my 77 and 79, the Edelbrock Performer EPS
intake with Edurashine coating. Edelbrock 600 cfm carb, valve seals,
head gaskets, ARP s/s 12 point intake bolts, ARP Head bolts and
header gaskets.
