The chrome shop I had my things done said 80% of the process is preparation. The surface must be completely smooth to get a good result, otherwise it looks like silver paint.

AND...the buffing process afterward.
The EPA has hammered these shops with so many waste restrictions that they are forced to charge outragous prices for work (compared to 10yrs ago)
For tripple plate show chrome on my '72, I paid $250 for each rear bumper and $150 for each front bumperette. WELL WORTH IT to maintain the quality of the original bumpers. The re-pop bumpers are crap. So is the original flash chome used at the factory & for re-pop bumpers.
