How much does chrome plating / re-chroming cost ?
Anyone done it ???
I have to re-chrome my rear luggage rack, ignition coil shieldings, brake power booster, pulleys, pumps, alternator and alternator bar.
I have been searching online for a chrome shop that will plate a few pieces of my car for me and not send me running to fill in a bankruptcy form. I'd appreciate if anyone can suggest the name of a reliable shop that'll do it in the San Jose, Santa Clara, CA area.
i think it's now cheaper to buy the parts already chromed than to have em chromed not to mention trying to find chrome shops anymore. all the ones i used to use in the detroit area are either bought up by the big 3 and closed to the public or just gone

keep rumblin'
Based on the items you listed above, it's probably cheaper to buy chrome replacement parts made in China, than it is to have your current pieces rechromed. The ones that will be expensive to replace would be the ingition coil shielding and the brake booster.
Why dont you try going to a motorcycle shop and asking who they send their chrome work to or asking them to send your items out , or ask a biker that you might see with chrome on their ride. Be advised that chrome is a lot like paint in that how the end result turns out is directionally proportional to the finish of the part when they chrome it,,,in other words chrome does not hide blemish's , rough casting marks etc. I always had good results when I prepared the part before sending it out. Is Browns in Kentucky still in business? Hope this helps,,,,,,,,,Peace,,, Moosie
I had a TON of engine bay components chrome plated on my Vette. And it was all done in your area. Get some qoutes from various shops. I had mine done in San Jose near Driveline Specialties. The place I believe is called "Superior Chrome and Bumper" and he charged me around the neiborhood of $250-300 to chrome plate my upper a-arms including the spindles and the washers and bolts. That was back in 1996 though. Tom I believe is the owner of the believe and is now ran by his son. I could be wrong. My pieces recieved a triple chrome plating process.
If you don't mind driving to Stockton, try Delta Plating. They did an excellent job on my bumpers, and the did some other small parts as well, stuff still looks brand new several years later
Keep in mind also that some of what you are paying for is a hazardous waste fee for getting rid of all the solutions used in the process
I'm having my upper sunvisor mount corner pieces at this place right here at the moment. He quoted me $50-60 each to fix the potmetal and rechrome them. I don't know how they are going to look yet because they just got them last friday. Said it would be a 3 week turnaround time.
E_Tar, BackN70 you guys are the best. thanks for your response & recommendation. will be getting some chrome work done for the challenger in a few months. Don, i do remember that it looks real nice under that hood of your vert.
I think chroming is something you wouldn't want to pinch pennies on.
Better replace it or save up to get it done right.
New chrome parts from Asia might be cheaper but they will rust pretty quickly, in my experience. Decent-quality chrome applied by your local specialists to decently-prepped components should last a whole lot longer.
I've moved away from chrome components because they just don't last.
