Paul, yes, I understand. I wasn't concerned about overheating at those temps, just wanted to make sure it was in the "normal" range.
I guess i'm too used to my '65 so it's disconcerting to look over at the dash on ther '78 and see 210*.

I'm thinking to MAYBE swap out the 195 t-stat to a 180.
I sure don't need the higher temp t-stat for heat in the car and as long as the temps are still high enough for proper emission function it MAY allow the temps to run a little lower.
Of course, even with a lower temp t-stat it may not make difference if these are the temps the car wants to be at.

I bet you have an aluminum radiator in the C-2, and a copper/brass one on the C- 3. That would account for a difference, IMO.

good point I didn't think about and yes, that's true. The C2 has a DeWitts Aluminum Restoration radiator and the C3 is the original Brass/Copper unit.
I forgot to take that into accout also.

Barry, you probably know the gauge isn't very reader friendly, few numbers. With that said, at idle in the barn my 79s seem to be about 190-200. Haven't really needed to pay a lot of attention to the gauges as no trouble in that department ever.
When I drove my white 79 home last year from Rhode Island, 1000 miles, pretty much straight through, I did pay attention to all the gauges. Temp stayed about 200-210(just before the 220 no on the gauge) all the way, never budged.
My 79s also have the aux electric fans. I think they turn on at 240 and off at 200. I have never seen those fans run on either 79.
Both still have 195 stats.
Mike

thanks Mike

that just gives me additional confirmation that my car seems to be in the normal operating temp range and that's all i needed to know.

Like I mentioned before, since it runs at a higher temp than my '65 I just wanted to make certain that where it was running temp wise was normal
